The University of Rolla new Student Recreation Center called for 600 tons of Structural Steel. The Havener Center, the newest building at the University of Missouri-Rolla, celebrated its grand opening Jan. 11-13, 2005 during the first week of the spring semester.

The 105,000 square foot center includes food options, the UMR Bookstore, a game room and lounge, and student and administrative offices. The building also provides wireless capabilities. In 1997, UMR students approved a special student fee to help fund the facility, resulting in $12 million in funding. A $5 million contribution by UM-Rolla graduate Gary Havener constituted the largest portion of $9 million in private funds for the center. No state funds have gone into the project..
